Poor management since they lost their longest serving principal, not very attentive to the actual needs of autistic children or those with other mental disorders. Their system of hiring fresh teachers only to have them leave after the kids get used to them makes it hard for children who have problems adjusting to go along with the program. They hire some good teachers but most have no clue what they're getting into with these kids. Its like a madhouse, lots of screaming and yelling and frustrated kids. Some of the middle grade teachers are very rude and harsh with students. It is to the point the children feel down right disrespected as people, sometimes feeling more mature than the teacher. With the issues some children face they can become violent and hit or beat other students making it very hard for a teacher to interfere. I have personally observed students leave campus, hit teachers, get thrown over a teachers shoulder and then slammed into a door because they would not calm down. Also I have had to deal with members of my own family, whom also attended, being hit by chairs or beaten by the same student multiple times and if they try to defend themselves they get suspended immediately. Your child is better off in a public school with a specialized IEP where they will do just as well if not better and not have to deal with this failed "charter school" system. I would not recommend Summit Academy to anyone and I seriously wish I would have just stayed in public school amd avoided the experience all together.
